◎ In British English, if the period or comma is a part of the quote itself, then the quotation mark is placed after the period or comma. This is usually the case with direct quotes.
Incorrect: ‘Today, there is a need to extract more precise criteria’.
Correct: ‘Today, there is a need to extract more precise criteria.’
