Usage of "comprise"

“comprise”の使い方について

◎ Use comprise to refer to the parts that form something. Unlike compose, it does not imply that the object is only made up of the parts.

Correct: The viral envelope comprises two layers of fatty molecules called lipids.
Also Correct: The solar system comprises the planets Mars and Jupiter.

“Comprise” is often used to describe statistical information. For example, “Students comprised 40% of the sample.”
