In papers from the fields of biology and medicine, see below for the tenses usually used in the Introduction and Methods sections.
- Introduction: The introduction is usually written in present tense. Example: “We show that p73 plays an important role in tumorigenesis.”
- Methods: This section is mainly written in the past tense. Example: “PC3 and LNCaP cell lines were obtained from ATCC under standard conditions.”
